E-Mail

Webmail

The simplest way to access your Gradient Hosting e-mail account is through our Webmail, which you can always find at the top of our site. Watch the following video for a detailed walkthrough:

Mobile & Desktop

Want to check your e-mail with an app on your phone or with a program on your computer? Then you'll need the following settings:

Incoming (receiving) Server
TypeIMAP   (POP is available, but we recommend IMAP)
Hostnamegradienthosting.co.uk
SecurityNone   (connection security is available - see the advanced section)
Port143
Authentication MethodNormal password

Outgoing (sending) Server
TypeSMTP
Hostnamegradienthosting.co.uk
SecurityNone   (connection security is available - see the advanced section)
Port25
Authentication MethodNormal password

The POP Protocol

We also support getting your e-mail via the POP protocol, but we highly recommend IMAP instead, since POP doesn't leave a backup of your mail on our servers, meaning it's up to you to keep your e-mail safe and you won't be able to see your e-mails from more than one computer.

If you want to use POP instead, you can use all the same settings as above, but choose POP as the connection type and use 110 as the port.

Advanced Settings

We also support connection security, which allows your e-mail to be encrypted between our servers and your computer or phone. This makes eavesdropping on your e-mail conversations almost impossible, but please be aware that this only secures e-mail sent by your contacts once it reaches our servers. If the original was sent unencrypted, then it will travel across the internet unencrypted until it reaches us.

The best secure method to use is STARTTLS because it won't be blocked by any firewall that allows non-secure e-mail and it also supports the IMAP IDLE extension, which means you can get notified in real time when an e-mail arrives, rather than only when your e-mail program checks for them.

Use these settings to get STARTTLS secured e-mail:

STARTTLS Secure Incoming (receiving) Server
TypeIMAP   (POP is available, but we recommend IMAP)
Hostnamegradienthosting.co.uk
SecuritySTARTTLS
Port143 (110 if you want to use POP)
Authentication MethodNormal password

STARTTLS Secure Outgoing (sending) Server
TypeSMTP
Hostnamegradienthosting.co.uk
SecuritySTARTTLS
Port25
Authentication MethodNormal password

If for some reason you can't use STARTTLS as described above, we also support IMAP and POP over SSL. The following settings show how to set it up:

SSL Secure Incoming (receiving) Server
TypeIMAP   (POP is available, but we recommend IMAP)
Hostnamegradienthosting.co.uk
SecuritySSL/TLS
Port993 (995 if you want to use POP)
Authentication MethodNormal password

SSL Secure Outgoing (sending) Server
TypeSMTP
Hostnamegradienthosting.co.uk
SecuritySSL/TLS
Port465
Authentication MethodNormal password
